The Swimathon Foundation Grants Scheme 2020 Is Now Open

The 2020 Swimathon Foundation Community Grants Scheme is inviting applications from groups and individuals who aim to promote swimming participation in their local community.

The Swimathon Foundation is a passionate advocate for swimming and the Grants Scheme is part of their effort to bring swimming to as many people as possible. In previous years a wide range of projects have been supported to help provide and promote swimming.

The Teignmouth Swimming Club received a grant for their Learn To Swim Teen programme in 2019 which went towards providing transport and free lessons to teenagers unable to swim 25m. Project lead Elizabeth Brown said, “This was a huge success and we have been asked to repeat this for adult non-swimmers next year. This project has also led many of our teachers to undertake training in special needs coaching and in particular dealing with autism.”

Another project that received funding in 2019 was the Aqua Champs initiative at Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness, which provided aqua aerobics classes for disabled women. Project leader Rachel Gee said, “We are very grateful to The Swimathon Foundation for partnering with us in getting our women into the pool, which they would not have an opportunity to do otherwise. They are getting healthier and happier, and enjoying every minute.”

Ralph Riley, Chairman of The Swimathon Foundation Community Grants Scheme said: “We encourage all individuals and organisations that have swimming promotional schemes that meet the Swimathon grant criteria that they would like to ‘get off the ground’ at their local Swimathon pool to apply for a grant today.”

Swim England are a proud supporter of the Grants Scheme and work closely with The Swimathon Foundation to administer the grants. Grants of between £500 and £2500 are available for organisations supported by pools that are participating in Swimathon 2020. Applications remain open until 5pm on March 13th 2020.
